Stephanie Firestone resides in Virginia and holds a BFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Her concentration there was on sculpture. Firestone's pottery and sculpture are of an experimental process with a naturalistic approach. She plays with volume and sensitivity in her figurative sculpture, using terra cotta clay with various methods of patina. Gestural torsos are often sculpted and fired in Raku or Salt kilns.
In Her Own Words "It was a natural thing for me to pursue art in college. From the start, I focused on the human form. This was due in part to years of exposure to my father's expressive oil paintings. and looking at all of his textbooks on the human figure. I would pore through them for hours. I find the figure to be sensitive, strong and ever changing. The shapes that are created by the multitudes of poses keep me searching more and more to find my expression with clay."
