Ann Marie Coolick is a talented American impasto painter focusing on contemporary landscapes. Coolick uses palette knives and paint straight from the tube. She slathers frosting-like paint layer upon layer onto the canvas, with paint running off the edges resulting in a sculptural, three-dimensional appearance. Her work references natural elements and infrastructure, including visual enlargements of foliage from her neighborhood  in Arlington, Virginia.

Inspired by expressionist artists Joan Mitchell, Frank Auerbach, and Hans Hofmann, Ann Marie considers her style a blend of expressionism and impressionism. Her heavy mark-making and overlapping layers reveal the history of each painting, with her geometric work being a conversation of certainty versus indecision. Her work is held in collections across the US and Europe.
